How many times have you thought to yourself that it had to be all or nothing?
Thinking like this can often hold you back from accomplishing what you want in your life.
It can keep you from creating new beliefs about your future.
Sure, all-or-nothing thinking makes it easy on us because there aren’t any grey areas, but it also leaves us thinking everything is one way or another.
It doesn’t give us the opportunity to dig deeper to see if there could be a possibility of having something in between that all-or-nothing thinking.
It doesn’t give you that opportunity for growth.
Is all-or-nothing thinking holding you back?
We see a lot of all-or-nothing thinking in kids.
You’ll hear them say things like Nobody likes me, or Everybody is doing it.
When we hear them talk like this, we know it’s not true, so why don’t we see through this when it is ourselves who start thinking like this?
You might be thinking something like everything about this day was terrible, or everything is going wrong today.
It’s hard to see through this all-or-nothing thinking on your own, and this is part of what I love so much when I’m working with my clients.
It’s amazing to see what changes when they become more aware of what they are thinking.
What about when you look at other people in the world?
Do you ever think there are bad people out there?
On the other hand, you may think someone is perfect or has the perfect life.
It’s that all-or-nothing thinking coming back in for you.
When you think about that person you think is perfect, isn’t it possible that there are things in their life that may be less than perfect?
What about yourself?
Do you think you are a good person or a bad person?
What if I told you that people are not good or bad?
What you think isn’t good or bad.
There is no right or wrong.
What if you started thinking you could have both, all and nothing, good and bad, right and wrong?
Success and failure.
When you can think like this, it won’t hold you back.
You are able to stop worrying about things and start putting yourself out there more often and much quicker.
You won’t see every step you make as being risky or turning into something you are failing at.
